The video will however give you a good idea of what happens during an eclipse of the Moon. It will be hard to detect any darkening of the Moon until it enters the inner part of the shadow or the umbra.

Brilliant Venus can be found gleaming in the southwest as darkness falls. Be sure to watch the Moon glide past these three planets November 7 , November 10 and November There will be an eclipse of the Moon the night of November A pattern of stars known as the Great Square now sits high in the south during mid-evening. The Great Square is part of a larger constellation known as Pegasus.
To the upper left of the Great Square is the farthest object you can see in the sky with your unaided eye, the Andromeda Galaxy. To see the Andromeda Galaxy you need to get far from city lights where the sky is very dark. To the unaided eye, the galaxy will look like a tiny smudge of light.
Better yet, see if you can find the Andromeda Galaxy with a pair of binoculars or a small telescope. It will appear as an elongated fuzzy spot. There are billions of stars in that fuzzy spot!
The Pleiades Star Cluster leads the familiar winter star patterns including Orion and Taurus into the sky and they all become more prominent each night as we approach winter. Look high in the east during mid-evening.
Once again our November Evening Star Map will help. Can you find the Big Dipper? Notice how low in the sky the dipper is this time of year. They point to Polaris , the North Star. Polaris is at the end of the handle of the Little Dipper. To dig deeper into the November evening sky check out the video below from the Space Telescope Science Institute. There are many more constellation star patterns you can pick out using our easy, Basic Evening Star Map.

Our basic star maps show the planets and major star patterns or constellations visible in the evening and morning skies this month, without faint background stars.
This makes it easier to pick out the brighter patterns in the real sky. The edges of the circular map mark the horizon all around you. Find one of the bright constellation patterns, ignoring fainter stars you might see in between. You can then jump from constellation to constellation, finding your way around the sky. It helps to use a dim, red flashlight so that you can see both the map and the sky together. Fortunately, some of the meteors featuring bright heads, with a tail.
The Andromeda Galaxy Find it by looking high in the east between 8 and 10 o'clock. Find the Andromeda, the Princess, and her string of three medium bright stars. Use the middle star, and then follow two fainter stars to the upper left, where you'll see a faint smudge of light. Looking slightly away from it allows the light to hit a more sensitive part of your eye, and you will see it more easily, though still quite faint.
November 14, Asteroids can be tricky to study, and their widely varying composition makes it difficult to extrapolate data from one study to the next. Image: DART. Travelling to an altitude of km, this carries travellers well above the Karman line , the internationally agreed edge of space.
You might have noticed that the New Shepard rocket looks a little different to the sleek rockets we have become used to. The reason is in the landing of the rocket and the safety of the people on board. Landing rockets is a difficult and dangerous task, so if you can make sure there are no people around when it happens, all the better. The crew capsule at the top of the New Shepard is designed to detach and land separately under parachutes as the now uncrewed booster stage lands using its engine.
The two separate at an altitude of about km so they have plenty of time to drift apart. Hence why it has a wide base.
The need to be aerodynamic going up and blunt coming down makes the top of the rocket look the way it does. Add in some internet culture and the rest is history. The Space Launch System launch vehicle for the Artemis 1 mission is finally fully assembled.
This mission will carry an uncrewed Orion capsule to the Moon in February as a test flight for future human missions. SpaceX conducted a static fire of Starship. Tests like these are vital for validating the hardware before attempting a launch and orbital flight. A Russian film crew paid a short visit to the ISS to record footage for a movie. Three Chinese astronauts were launched on a six month mission to the Tiangong Space Station. The Ariane 5 rocket successfully launched two communications satellites into geostationary transfer orbit.
By itself a fairly standard launch for Arianespace, this mission is significant because it reaffirms the reliability of the Ariane 5 for its next lift off. Hopefully launching 18 December, it will be loaded with probably the most important payload it will ever carry, the James Webb Space Telescope.
